Despising all things associated with Palm Beach County, this magazine has an unsurprising bone to pick with the place.
Three days ago, Cyberista asserted that there is a serious anthrax threat in the area and government officials were covering up any evidence of the matter. First they said it was random. Then a second person became ill.
That person died.
Government officials maintained that the anthrax was “ordinary” and no anthrax was stolen from any laboratories. It was probably just a disgruntled intern that they are tracking for criminal charges.
The debacle continued into today when officials announced that the anthrax was not “genetically engineered”. That should have been the end, and probably was, of any rational person’s patience.
First, does it matter if anthrax is “ordinary” or not? Anthrax is anthrax. Does it matter if it was stolen from a laboratory or not? Kids get mushrooms from cow fields all the time with the purpose of getting high. They don’t need advanced laboratories to roll on shrooms. Terrorists need not break into any high security labs to obtain a disease that occurs in thousands of ranches around the world. And the final question: does it matter to any degree whether or not the anthrax from Boca was “genetically engineered”?
Once again, anthrax is anthrax.
The bottom has pretty much fallen out from Palm Beach County officials. Nobody will ever, ever believe anything that ever comes out of their collective mouth. A third woman is infected with anthrax and it presents some very interesting problems.
She was discovered to have anthrax because she was tested for anthrax. What does that say about the rest of the County, state and country? Doctors don’t know how to identify early Ebola from late ringworm. The government is possibly killing hundreds of people because they want to keep the economy going and, more importantly, not admit that they have no realistically feasible plan to deal with biological terror.
