Banning gay marriage prevents a tax mess. That is the strongest argument that proponents had going for their in the 11 states that approved the legal definition of marriage as one man and one woman.
Banning civil unions, however, is cruel and unreasonable. Even El Presidente doesn't object to civil unions. Eight of the 11 states with the measure banned civil unions for homosexual couples as well.
Make sure you are clear on this: Americans in eight states are further to the right than the Bush Administration. Ohio has demonstrated itself to be to the right of Nazi Germany.
Civil unions don't hurt anybody. I don't think I want to know anybody with a heart hard enough to separate people in love with each other. Who cares if it's weird? People who decide to spend the rest of their lives together are different from dudes at diaper parties in Hoboken. Social conservatives choose not to recognize that sexual preference does not equal sexual deviance.
Why is consenting activity such a problem for social conservatives? They couldn't be satisfied with the slam dunk argument of taxation. They had to subjugate citizens and take away their right to domestic tranquillity. It's disgusting to see Americans so willing to rob each other of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
