British Prime Minister Tony Blair is moving from country to country seeking support for the American bombing campaign. Historically, Britain has assisted with every major military action taken by the US but the assistance was strictly military.

Never before has a US President not taken center stage on diplomatic matters relating major US military action. Maybe that’s because the US has never been the victim of a coup d’tat by a group of aging warmongers with a fearful, retributive and spoiled little boy named Dubya at the helm.

It’s clearly for the benefit of salvaging a semblance of regional stability in the Middle East that Dubya stays inside and doesn’t talk to anybody. Unfortunately, his inability to do simple things like learn the pronunciation of the names of regional leaders or cease with the instigating comments like “smoke’em out” and “with us or against us” make George W. Bush singularly unfit to be President of the United States.

Mr. Blair should be commended for his effort to help the United States save face by replacing Bush’s international role without public complaint. However, if the United Kingdom starts replacing the United States in every international contingency, we should dredge up the tea from Boston Harbor and accept our role as spineless Canadians who worship the Queen.
